What does the RP Department do anyway?

The role-play department has recently undergone some changes as to what it's role in DSL actually is. Being that our primary objective is to help others define and maintain the roles of their characters, it is probably wise that we define and maintain what our role is first. The following is a list of what our responsibilities and objectives are:

1.  Restring consultation.  Basically what this means is, we will be the authority on what is appropriate restrings.  If an imm or a player has a question regarding a restring, we are the ones to ask.  If not available, you can ask another imm and they can consult with us when we are available.  If you have questions about what would be a good restring, we can offer advise and aid as far as that goes.

2.  Player Descriptions.  If you are having problems coming up with a good description, we are here to help you.  We can aid you in writing your description, critiquing your existing ones, ect.  As your description will dictate most players first impression of your character, it is important that they be well written.  We will also be looking for the inappropriate descriptions and offering aid in correcting them.

3.  Questing.  We will no longer be running large scale or even minor quests except as authorized by myself or admin.  What we will be doing is switching into common mobs and interacting with the populace in an effort to bring some of the areas to life.  The questing department will be growing and will be responsible for all quests big or small.  When you walk into the tavern or salute a city guard or whatever, do not be surprised if they react however, for that is going to be part of our role.  Interaction.

4.  Non-standard reclasses.  Basically, if your class is allowed to reclass into a specific reclass but your race isn't it can still be achieved with a bit of creativity and time on your part. We in the RP department approve such non-standard reclasses. We also disapprove them. If you cannot do your part to consistently RP the change and/or it is determined to be convenient rp behind the reasoning for the non-standard reclass, chances are it won't be approved. If you want a nonstandard reclass, you must role-play the transition. And since we are not always readily available to watch over you, you must document it in story notes. When we feel your Rp is developed enough and consistent enough, we will then make the decision.

5.  Nobility.  I saved this for last because it is a drastic change and is not approved yet with Scorn.  If he objects I am positive he will let me know.  No longer will nobility be given simply if you have a family and a background.  It has gone from nobility to simply a last name and I do not believe that was it's intent.  In order to gain nobility from this point on, it has to be granted to you by a leader of a kingdom.  How do you get them to do this?  Prove yourself noble to their kingdom.  Serve it and earn the leaders favor.  Once you have nobility, your whole family has it.  However, a kingdom leader can remove your nobility should you earn banishment or punishment for actions against the crown or that reflect dishonor to that kingdom.  They do have to justify it either way with my department.  (The kingdom leader does).  All nobility already in place will remain of course, but no new nobility will be issued without a kingdom leader requesting it.  And what I mean by kingdom leader is just that, the high ruler of the kingdom, be it king, queen, Kahn, whatever that kingdoms highest ruler is.  I hope this enhances the RP as it was originally intended.  Existing noble names will still be able to add members at their own request, but new nobility must be requested and justified by kingdom rulers.  It should also accompany a grand ceremony as receiving nobility is no small thing.

6.  Yes I know I said nobility was the last thing, but I remembered another. We in the RP dept will be available to help plan and coordinate RP events such as masked balls, fox and hound hunts, anything of that nature that a kingdom would like to organize.  Of course we cannot be available for every wedding and birth, but we can consult on those.    I hope this helps clear up what our role is in the RP department.  If you have questions, please contact one of us.
