Topaz Dragons

Born of an unexpected evolution of the Crystal Dragons, who began to adapt to the lands of Algoron independent of the designs of their creators, the Topaz Dragons are the larger kin of their Crystal brethren.

Topaz Dragons are a unique and unpredictable breed of gem dragon, known for their aloofness, curiosity and volatile temperament. Though not inherently evil, they are among the most irritable and antisocial of dragonkind, often preferring solitude over company.

Their scintillating scales range from pale yellow to deep amber, like topaz gemstones. As they age their scales harden and become more translucent, creating a crystalline shimmer. Some develop a blue crystal inner scale within the pale yellow or deep amber outline.

Capricious, moody and often ill-tempered, their behavior stems more from a desire for privacy than from malice. They enjoy challenging conversation, philosophical debate and clever mental games, but are quickly annoyed if they feel insulted or underestimated. They respect strength and wit, but rarely seek companionship. They prefer arid or mountainous climates, far from the seas and rivers many other dragons claim as their territory.

Their breath weapon is a devastating miasma of negative energy, a harsh cloud that saps mortal vitality and draws the moisture from the body. It often leaves a victim a desiccated husk, unable to do more than croak and groan in distress.

Though neutral in alignment, Topaz Dragons often seem abrasive or disdainful. Their fierce independence and refusal to conform make them unpredictable. They act from inner logic, not tradition or law.
