The Five Empty Thrones

Long before the kingdoms divided the world, dragons recognized no kings, borders or mortal claims. Each great continent belonged to a single dominant wyrm. Those sovereigns are gone. Their thrones are not.

Each throne waits at the heart of a hidden Dominion that only a dragon may enter. The dragon who conquers it becomes the Dragonlord of that continent, and rules it until another dragon takes it away.

The First Dragonlord of each throne is recorded forever. It never resets.

The Dominions

The Throne of Ash

Althainia
Tests raw combat

Armies tried to destroy the ancient sovereign here. They failed, and what was left of them never stopped fighting. Ash-bound soldiers, siege engines built to bring down dragons, and the harpooners of the Last Crusade hold the road to the throne, and the last Dragonslayer of the Hundred Banners waits before it.

The Throne of Secrets

Arkania
Tests knowledge and cunning

The strange one. The wizards of Arkania built this Dominion to hold a dragon, not to kill one, and it cannot be won by strength alone. Illusions, riddles and runes stand between you and the throne, and a containment engine still guards the seat it was built to keep filled.

The Throne of Rime

Icewall
Tests endurance

The Dominion itself wants you dead. The cold of Rime bites deeper the further you go, recovery is slow and hard-won, and the creatures of the glacier grow worse with every step. There is one warm place on the way to the throne. Use it.

The Throne of Fang and Vine

Tropica
Tests the hunter

A primordial jungle, where things hunt the dragon instead of waiting in rooms to be killed. Venom, ambushes and creatures that heal as fast as you can hurt them. At the throne lies something older than the jungle, that swallowed the last sovereign whole.

The Throne of the Storm

Shokono
Tests discipline

The martial throne. Warriors sworn to keep dragonkind from this seat guard the mountain one at a time, and every one of them is deadly. There are few enemies here, and none of them can be beaten carelessly. Fight each one correctly, or die.

The Sixth Throne

When all five thrones have had Dragonlords for three days, something older notices. The Sixth Throne stirs at the roof of the world, and for seven days each Dragonlord may ascend to it from their own lair, once. It cannot be claimed or held. The dragon who conquers it fastest becomes High Dragonlord of all dragonkind, until the Sixth Throne stirs again.

Taking a Throne

A dragon of level 51 or higher may stand before a continent's Wyrmgate and type enter dominion.

  • You go alone: no group, no followers, no mount. Only one dragon may contest a Dominion at a time.
  • Entering is the attempt. Win or lose, you may not try the same throne again for 72 hours.
  • You have 45 minutes. If you die, your body is carried out to the Wyrmgate.
  • When the Guardian, or the Dragonlord's Echo, has fallen, stand before the throne and claim throne.

A dragon may hold only one throne. Claiming another gives up the first.

Holding a Throne

A Dragonlord need not be online to defend their throne. Their Echo does it for them: a shape of the throne's own power, made in their image, with their color, breath and growth. It grows harder to beat with every challenger it repels, and its Dragonlord chooses how it fights.

On their own continent, a Dragonlord deals 5% more damage and takes 5% less. A throne is lost if another dragon takes it, if its Dragonlord gives it up, or if they go 30 days without logging in.
