Religions of Algoron › The Gods of Neutrality › Raije
Raije is often misunderstood by mortals, who picture an angry and unfair god. Prophets and holy people say otherwise. The God of War loves a good fight but hates an unbalanced war, since there is no fun in it, and on rare occasions he has stepped in to even the odds. Bards tell how, as a child, he would stir up conflict just to see how mortals reacted.
His followers range from the angry warrior to the gentle priest, each with personal reasons for their faith. They have been known to start wars in his name, so long as they do it with the grace and honor his name demands.
When the gods agreed to send one of each pantheon to end Malachive, Kwainin chose Raije as "the first competent person for this mission." At Malachive's frozen camp on Icewall, Raije slew an Abhorrant with his axe, but the mission ended with Devion murdering Kadiya. Raije carried her body home to Austinian and ordered his Balanx to tell all of Algoron that Evil had started the God War. Malachive tore the heart from that same Balanx, Amethenius.
Raije then went alone to Malachive's ice fortress, a twelve-foot minotaur in golden armor. He split one Abhorrant in two and buried Deathmeere, the most dangerous of them, beneath the ice of a frozen lake, but while he fought, Malachive murdered his sister Turpa. Raije came too late and crushed the skull of the dead Abhorrant in his grief.
Years later, when the duel between Austinian and Necrucifer crashed into a frozen lake on Icewall, Raije took them both captive and bound them in prisons among the stars. Mortals of the Light and of Darkness freed them, and both fathers hunted him across the red moon. As their bolts closed on him, Malachive seized Raije and carried him off, and the two fought across the skies until they cracked the red moon itself. Raije's fiery blast tore the flesh from Malachive and turned his bones to dust; only one blackened horn survived, picked up by a kender.
Since Drakkara took the Darkness for her own, Raije has been the loudest of the Neutral gods in calling for war against her.
No balanx serve Raije in Algoron at present.

Priests devote their lives to the service of their god, teaching the holy (or unholy) gospel and converting others to the faith. Every church is organized in ranks, and each rank brings more power. A priest who meets a rank's requirements may petition their god for promotion; the gods watch their priests throughout their lives, from their duties to their prayers (and gprays) to the notes they write on matters affecting the faithful, and judge their worth by what they see.
