Religions of Algoron › The God of Chaos › Malachive
Born of Necrucifer and Drakkara, Malachive's birth broke a long-standing treaty among the gods and was kept secret, meant to tip the balance toward Evil. When the Gods of Neutrality learned of him they vowed to destroy him, and his own parents, outnumbered, would not protect him. It was Austinian and the Gods of Good who spared him, believing the child deserved the chance to become something better. Hidden among mortals, he was born in Arkane and raised by the human family who adopted him, and he grew to manhood on Icewall, even working as a carpenter to help his family, much to his father's disgust.
Once Necrucifer awakened his power, Malachive turned against every god, not only the Light. He came to believe that all the gods exploit mortals through worship and holy war, and he founded the faction of Chaos, preaching that the gods have lied, that there is no afterlife, and that mortals are nothing but insects to them. He promised his followers freedom, independence and power without priests, churches or divine masters. The Abhorrants, the God slayers, owed him a debt and served him, and Seanan, once Master of the Conclave, returned from death as his servant.
When Raije, Kadiya and Devion came to his frozen camp to end him, Malachive set the Abhorrants upon them and slipped away; in the chaos Devion murdered Kadiya, and the God War began. On that same field Malachive tore the heart from Amethenius, Raije's Balanx. When Raije, Turpa, Sebatis and Cliath later stormed his ice fortress, he drove his whole army into a suicidal rage to keep the gods busy, and slew Turpa with a spear through her back. Kwainin still holds Austinian partly to blame for sparing him.
In the Week of Hell, Malachive and Raije fought across the skies until they cracked the red moon. Raije's fiery blast tore the flesh from Malachive's frame and turned his bones to dust, and one blackened horn fell to Algoron, where a kender picked it up.
But Malachive is rumored not to be dead. The horn found its way to Seanan, and when Seanan faced Sebatis he loosed from it a black vapor that nearly destroyed the God of Magic from within, until Zandreya tore him away. In the gathering hall of the Warp, beneath a golden statue of Malachive ripping the chains from the world, there now grows a tree made of horn, Light scarring its bloody bark.
No temple to Malachive is known to stand in the realm.

Priests devote their lives to the service of their god, teaching the holy (or unholy) gospel and converting others to the faith. Every church is organized in ranks, and each rank brings more power. A priest who meets a rank's requirements may petition their god for promotion; the gods watch their priests throughout their lives, from their duties to their prayers (and gprays) to the notes they write on matters affecting the faithful, and judge their worth by what they see.
